Fall is a busy time for people in the wedding industry. The cooler temperature offer a more inviting atmosphere to all involved. The same is true even when heading south to the Keys. Islamorada Key to be exact. A couple from upstate Florida choose Academy DJs to entertain at their tropical vacation home getaway. The home was a perfect location for a wedding on the beach, two pools and a private beach with a million dollar view. Live steel drum music added the Caribbean flavor during the ceremony and cocktail hour. The reception had an eclectic blend of music ranging from country, hip hop, and even the traditional Jewish Horah dance was performed. Fun was had by all and I was privileged to entertain at this wedding reception.

The Scholes-Freeman wedding at the Bertram in Aurora, Ohio was a very exiting evening. The evening began with a high energy Grand Entrance followed by a fantastic sit down dinner. A special prank was played on the groom by DJ Steve Cigany and a Staff member from The Bertram. A pre-arranged Pizza delivery to the Groom was performed during dinner and it really got a great laugh from everyone. After the Bride and Groom's First dances. The dance floor got into high gear and never let up until Midnight. There was a special song medley dedicated to the groom and all his Ohio State Football Fanatics that really got the place jumping. I had many people come up to me and comment how they were having a "great" time. The Groom came to me at midnight and said "Man, you hit a home run tonight, thanks". The father of the bride specially thanked me for giving his "little girl' a fantastic wedding. I really enjoyed being a part of this wedding and making it special for everyone. In Judaism, a Bar Mitzvah is a Jewish boy, and a Bat Mitzvah a Jewish girl, who has come of age. The terms are also commonly used to refer to the ceremony celebrating this coming of age.

Bar Mitzvah (pl. B'nai Mitzvah) comes from the Aramaic: בר מצוה, "one (m.) to whom the commandments apply". (If it were Hebrew it would be בן (ben) not בר (bar). בר is "son" in Aramaic, and בן (ben) is son in Hebrew.).
Bat Mitzvah ((pl. B'not Mitzvah) is בת מצוה, "one (f.) to whom the commandments apply" (Ashkenazi: Bas Mitzvah).

The Murray-Smith wedding on Saturday July 11, 2009 was a

smashing success. We rocked the Martin Center at the University
of Akron and the dance floor was packed ALL night long. I was
getting great comments about my DJ work all night and afterwards
as well by many guests, family members and also the staff of the
Martin Center.

Two guests came up to me at dinner and praised me not only for my
dinner music selections but the fact "I understood what music volumes
should be during dinner". The brother of the groom said "You are the best
wedding DJ I have ever seen". All in all a very great fun filled evening.

Cruise ship wedding, Florida

The new Freedom of the Seas has arrived to Port Canaveral and already I have been on there four times. It is a beautiful ship with it's own shopping center and recreational areas. It is the biggest cruise ship on water in the United States today and for a wedding it is a great option if your looking for a short low key event. Here is the view from the DJ position overlooking the Carnival Sensation across the port. You can see a small buffet table set up.

Here is a unique photograph I took just before the wedding ceremony, it shows all three ships, the carnival sensation and the Disney Magic as well as Freedom of the seas.

The staff on the ship take care of everything from start to finish and the wedding planners and coordinators are always top notch on the ship. If you are a bride and groom wanting everything organized for you and brought on board consider this wedding experience.

"Another great wedding. The wedding was held at The Dutch Village Inn in Columbiana, Ohio. The Father of the bride, Chip Richter is a Semi-Professional entertainer. He has a band and they perform strictly to younger kids, using the same BOSE L-1 system. He was very impressed that I was using the BOSE System. He commented that my entire set-up was extremely professional looking and sounding.

Once again my light show impressed everyone, judging from all the comments I received. During and after the reception I was approached by many family members and friends. The comments ranged from "awesome music mix", "very professional", to "your performance and music truly made the reception a success". One of the guests was from Florida and he had heard that Academy DJs was based in Florida. He said he would recommend Academy to everyone he knows. Needless to say I had a lot of fun. "

The Sable-Friedel wedding was a rousing success. They were thrilled and the dance floor was packed all night. The photographer,who I never met before made a comment to me that I was one of the best DJs he had ever worked with. This was an excellent wedding in a beautiful setting. Tuscawilla country club was the setting for a perfect early afternoon wedding where east met west. Josh and Reemya were married on June 6th 2009 and family and friends truly enjoyed a wonderull occasion. The country club has just upgraded and installed a brand new beautiful wood dance floor and new carpet. If you are considering a wedding venue close to Orlando take a look at Tuscawilla and what it has to offer. The interesting thing about this wedding was the fact that one half of the family was from India and they dressed in traditional Sari attire. The families danced together and requested salsa and Latin music. I did manage to get some Bhangra on too and classic Bollywood songs. Congratulations to MR and Mrs Hathaway

Academy DJs Paradise Cove

Florida can certainly dish out some weather! It was June 4th 2009 at one of my favorite locations in Orlando, FL called Paradise cove. Also known as BV water sports. This place is a gem and is so pretty for a wedding backdrop. I love it because when you hire the place it is yours exclusively and you are not sharing with another wedding party.

The scenario is great, right on a tropical Lake Bryan but I got there and the heavens opened. With Jessica walking down the Isle at 7 PM it was a complete heavy down pour. Then as if by a miracle it stopped and the ceremony took place right on time.

I played the cerem ony music using a Bose sound system which enables you to play at the ceremony even though you are standing in the reception location.

Other than the rain everything went like clockwork. The food was amazing and I have now worked with Aloha Productions several times. The food consisted of real authentic Hawaiian and some very nice sauces to go with the meat dishes.

With Academy DJs in the house the dance floor was of course always packed. I have to mention and give credit to the kids that did a great job of the cupid shuffle, for there age the best I have seen.

Wedding at Leu Gardens, Orlando

I had the honor of performing at the wedding of Jennifer and Eric Young on Sunday 5-31-09 at the Leu Gardens, Orlando. If you have been to this location before you will know it is a beautiful historic manor home with extensive gardens right in the heart of Orlando.

The weather was beautiful, although very hot and the setting for the ceremony in the Rose garden. I can't wait to see these pictures taken by my good friends at Fat Katz Photograhy I am sure it will make for some seriously stunning photographs. A word of warning to any DJs performing a ceremony at the rose garden though. It is at least a half mile walk to carry all your equiment to the ceremony site. Bring a trolly or cart because you are going to need it. Arrive in plenty of time and be prepared to sweat. Do not get changed in to your formal wedding attire until you have set up the ceremony location and sound checked. For Ladies invited to a wedding in the garden due to the walk you may wish to save your heels for the reception back at the manor and not for the ceremony unless you want to walk a fair distance in them!

After the ceremony the guests then went back to the house for a cocktail hour and dinner. Catering was excellent as usual and provided by our friends at Puff N Stuff catering

The evening was perfect, a blend of good food, great conversation and of course fantastic music and dancing provided by Academy DJs

High definition final prom video

Finally we have produced a 5 minute high definition video shot at our recent school prom. Make sure you click on the HD button on the bottom right as you begin to watch the video. It shows an awesome laser show and lighting effects from Chauvet and other manufacturers. The prom was the talk of the town and needless to say a very exciting time for the class of 2009. The music rolled on through the night accumulating in the crowning of the prom king and queen.

During the prom text live was used where the students could text messages to each other or to the DJ. The DJ received all of the messages via a lap top and then decided on which ones would be displayed on the two big screens either side of the DJ booth. The texts were continuous throughout the night but the last hour was dedicated purely to music video. The kids could chat throughout the prom to each other having messages displayed and it helped to create a real interactive experience, way to go Academy DJs.

This school prom on May 16th 2009 was really very cool. DJs Richard Barker and Steadman Pottinger used the latest sound and lighting to make the Dixie county high school prom a major success. The teachers informed the DJs that usually the kids never stay as long as they did. One student informed the principal. This is the best prom and day of my life,

wedding or party dancefloor disaster

Wedding or party dance floor disaster. OK so you have probably all heard of the saying "I'm going to tear up the dance floor" or "cutting a rug?" and I am sure you all hope your DJ will "Tear things up" especially when it comes to blowing the roof off the building.

In my experience my clients want a DJ who can keep the party rocking all night and keep people dancing. It is not the sole purpose for hiring a DJ but usually a key factor in the decision is to ensure the DJ can fill up a dance floor with guests and then keep it full. Nobody wants a DJ who turns the dance floor to ice or makes it a no go zone,

This weekend I played three events and the dance-floor on all events was literally torn to pieces. It actually has the potential to be dangerous so if you hire my services please ask your hotel or facility to ensure they secure the dance floor correctly to the floor, make them jump up and down on it repeatedly and try to force it apart. They will need to lock it down because I will bring the PARTY to you if you want me to!

Then again of course if you want a low key event or one where there is not much dancing or fun you may wish to look for another company

Cruise ship wedding in California

As I begin my 40 minute drive from my home in Escondido, CA to downtown San Diego & to DJ in The Port of San Diego, I can see it’s another beautiful day in the making. Sure enough, when arrive at the Port it’s sunny, blue skies, and somewhere in the 70’s. Just another day here in paradise.

I load my equipment and make my way through the terminal and meet up with the Wedding Coordinator’s, the Bride and Groom, and about 35 guests who came from all over the United States.

After getting our ship passes, we are the first ones on Royal Caribbean’s “Radiance Of The Seas”. The Bride and Groom head to their cabin to change, their guests explore the ship, and I head to the 13^th floor and the Starquest Lounge to setup.

The ceremony starts right on time and their family friend who is also the officiant tells us all how the Bride and Groom met. The Groom is a doctor and was caring for the Brides mother. It was a very touching story. After they exchange their vows and rings, their two young grandchildren girls sing a song they had written especially for the wedding.

As they begin taking pictures, I play some special requests from Michael Buble, Rod Stewart, Frank Sinatra, and the brides favorite, David Archuleta’s version of “Stand By Me”.

They listen to Louis Armstong & Kenny G’s version of “What A Wonderful World”, Diana Krall’s “Let’s Fall In Love”, and others as they enjoy a delicious luncheon buffett and spectacular views of downtown San Diego and the Harbor.

I introduce the Bride & Groom to their family & friends for their first dance as husband & wife to Michael Buble’s version of “The Way You Look Tonight”. Per their request, I invite everyone to join them on the dance floor.

After throwing the bouquet and garter, the grandkids are ready for the “Electric Slide”, “Cupid Shuffle”, and the “Cha Cha Slide”. Then the Best Man joins them on the dance floor to his favorite, “Old Time Rock N’ Roll”. For those who wanted something a little mellower, I personally sang “After The Lovin’” and “L-O-V-E”.

Before you know it, the reception is almost over. After taking a picture with the Bride & Groom, they thank me for a “superb performance”. They will have a fantastic honeymoon as the ship sets sail in a few hours on a 14 day trip to the Panama Canal. I thought, it sure would be great to stay onboard and enjoy this fantastic voyage, but then again, I live here and DJ in San Diego, California, “America’s Finest City”, I’ll head home to my paradise and look forward to doing this again in the future, either on another cruise ship or at one of the many beautiful venues here in Southern California.

A wedding reception is a special time for family and friends to celebrate the union of two. A little rain should not spoil that celebration. A rain shower started just as I was making the introductions. Just as I got the bride and groom announced my laptop locked up and started looping. I don’t think it favored getting a little wet, even my back-up amp got into the act and started flashing warning signs. Would this night end as a disaster? No! With some awesome “spring-into-action” help from the Coastal Kitchen’s venue staff we covered the primary system up and moved inside then switch to the backup systems. DJ Ricardo had his laptop on the ready so we were back online and jamming in no-time. I truly believe in having backups to everything, in this case it paid off. Meeting with Jeff, Coastal Kitchen’s private party staff coordinator, a couple of days before the event proved to be very important as well. A level of cooperation was established from our meeting to ensure a special celebration no matter what happened, rain or not. And a special celebration was had by all till the wee hours. The bride and groom even danced on the bar and did not let a little rain dampen their spirits. My laptop & amp recovered as well and are ready for the next special celebration.

Wedding 10-11-08 Marine-Land

Hi every one,

I wanted to share an experience I had with Jennifer and Jason last weekend. I had the pleasure of performing at their wedding in St. Augustine, Florida where Marineland is located. This place was the scene for a beautiful wedding involving the ocean on one side and a Dolphin habitat on the other with the DJ (Me) placed in the center.

I performed their ceremony music and they waded ankle deep in to the dolphin pool, the dolphins were part of the ceremony. During the evening there was a small dolphin show with even one of the dolphins assisting with the wedding cake cut. The wedding party was very small and intimate, it was perfect. Towards the latter part of the night I had every one dancing, although it was dark I swear the dolphins were dancing and singing too until the end of the reception

Patrón Tequila Party Tent 2008

Academy DJs, Inc hired to represent a corporate sponsor finding themselves on the "Speed" channel and the talk of the races. The Club Patron lounge was the only place to be to watch the races or hang out after them thanks to Academy DJs, Inc

Intense is one word that can accurately describe the past 4 days of my life. It started nervously waiting for my new boss, Richard, to arrive at my house for a long 6.5 hour road trip to Braselton GA just outside of Atlanta. What would we talk about for 6.5 hours? Would there be any awkward moments of silence? To our surprise we found our common ground and had plenty to talk about even after a few tense moments about gas pedal management. Richard reminded me that the Petit Le Mans was where the race was and not on I-75. Road Atlanta Raceway is in Braselton, GA, a sleepy town with an international race track that never seems to sleep. Just like the race cars roaring and rocking around the race track, our job was to rock the Patrón Party tent for 3 days in a row from 9 am to 7 pm. That’s where the intensity comes in. MC’ing and DJ’ing for 10 hours a day is no light feat. Richard and I drew upon our military experiences and worked as a team. First attract the crowd then secondly keep them entertained which equals people staying and enjoying more and more Patrón Tequila. On day 3 the crowd size was so large we felt like soldiers who did not want to leave their post until the mission was complete. That’s exactly what we did. Richard brilliantly flowed on the microphone; I spun the wheels of steel with a hypnotic rhythm for 10 hours straight with no breaks or switching of roles. We just felt the flow and did not stop for anything. At the end of the day our client, Patrón, along with the masses, was happy. It was then we realized the importance of adrenaline. Academy DJs came through and actually made this corporate tent and sponsor the hotspot to be at the races.
